Do you build websites for Lake Mac businesses?
Yes. We build websites for trades, shops, salons and local services in Charlestown, Warners Bay, Belmont, Cardiff, Toronto, Swansea, Speers Point and Morisset.
Lake Macquarie isn't one town. It's a ring of centres around the lake, with 221,859 people and 14,276 active businesses. That's more than twice as many people as Maitland.
What did Google show when we searched in Charlestown?
On 30 October 2026 we searched Google from Charlestown for eight everyday services: plumber, electrician, builder, landscaper, painter, hairdresser, mechanic and cleaner. For each one we looked at the businesses Google put at the top, and checked where each one's "Website" button went.
| Businesses Google showed | 24 |
|---|---|
| With their own website | 21 |
| Facebook or Instagram only | 3 |
| Linked to a directory or booking page instead | 0 |
| No website at all | 0 |
| Google reviews for the middle business | 33 |
Most businesses Google showed had their own website. But three didn't: an electrician, a painter and a hair salon each relied on Facebook or Instagram instead. That was more than in any other area we checked.
Can a business with only a few reviews get into the Google map?
In Charlestown, yes. Look at the landscapers. One business in Google's top three had just 1 review, and the other two had 6 each. Across all eight searches, 5 of the 21 businesses in the map had fewer than 10 reviews.
Compare that with Maitland, where the middle business had 85 reviews and only cleaners had fewer than 10.
Google says it picks map results using three things:
- Relevance: how well your business matches the search.
- Distance: how far you are from the person searching.
- Prominence: how well known you are, including your reviews and links to your website.
When few businesses nearby have lots of reviews, relevance and distance count for more. A website helps with relevance: a clear page for each service, and the suburbs you work in written on the page.
We can't promise anyone a spot in the map, and nobody honest can. Google says there's no way to pay for a better local ranking.
Why do Google results change from one Lake Mac suburb to the next?
Because Google pays attention to where the person searching is. We searched "web design lake macquarie" from Charlestown, then from Warners Bay, a short drive away. One of the three businesses in the map changed, and most of the normal results below it were different too.
For your business, that means you shouldn't just say "Lake Macquarie". Name the suburbs you actually work in, on your website and on your Google listing. Someone searching in Toronto should be able to see straight away that you come to Toronto.
Is a Facebook page enough for my business?
For some businesses it's working. Google showed three Charlestown businesses that had no website, only Facebook or Instagram. So you can get into the map without one.
But a website does some things a Facebook page can't:
- It's yours. Facebook can change how your page looks and who sees your posts.
- Each service gets its own page, which Google can show in the normal results under the map.
- Customers who don't use Facebook can see your work and prices without being asked to sign up.
If Facebook is working for you, keep it. Link it to your website so each one points people to the other.
How much does a website cost?
Our websites start from $830. There's no GST on top, because we're not registered for GST. You get a fixed quote before any work starts.
Most of the Lake Mac web designers we looked at didn't show a price. One that did started at $2,599. See what each of our prices includes, or read what a website costs in Newcastle and the Hunter.
